Implications for schools
(full day $15 inc morning tea and
light lunch)
Come and hear about the exciting
innovations in digital education in NZ.
Find out what the future of learning
could look like for our children.
Point England School was featured on
the Nigel Latta TV programme a few weeks ago.
Dorothy will share her experiences and
knowledge as an ‘Apple Distinguished Educator’.
Bookings essential by Monday 22 September (for catering) to
the school office.
A reminder
that SCHOOL
IS CLOSED this Thursday 18 September. This day has been allowed for in the total number of
school days this year.
All of the
teachers, and 2 BOT members (Lisa Fleming and Mike Keyworth), are going to
Auckland to visit Point England and Tamaki Primary Schools. They
will be sharing stories about how the teachers teach, how the children learn,
how families are involved in the school and how the children are accessing 21st
century learning. The schools are part of a network called ‘Manaiakalani’.
If you go to www.maniakalani.org you will be able to access some of the
information about the schools we are visiting and the background to their work.
Much of what
we will be looking at is centred around access to digital technologies and
connections with the wider world. Our school is soon to have a major digital
network upgrade supported by the Ministry of Education so access to the world
will be hugely enhanced for all of us.

Congratulations to our fabulous representatives at
the South Wairarapa Performing Arts Swap today. Our senior girls singing
group of Helen K, Ngaretta, Ashley, Jorja, Samantha and Emily performed
with confidence after their training with whaea Michelle. Our Pacific Island
Dance Group also performed. They are Ella, Taylah, Paige, Pyper, Mareikura,
Bria, Jade, Jessica and Jazmin Butler. These girls have put a lot of lunch time
practices into their performance. Huge thanks to the marvellous Maryanne Gulliver who has coached the
group and Mel MacGregor for co-ordinating them.
Thank you to Jess and Tiake Whyte and Johanna
Brazendale for managing the hockey teams at Clareville last week. The
students had a wonderful time.
I am aware
that there are some queries and
questions around our community about the introduction of two more ‘akonga māori’ classes next year at
Carterton School. Please come and ask
us if there is something you would like clarified. We are planning an
information session next term to let you know some of the areas we will be
focusing on across the school in 2015, but if there is anything you would like
to know before then please come and ask.
Term 3
finishes at 3pm on Friday 26 September and Term 4 starts at 8.55am on Monday 13 October.
The General Election is this Saturday 20 September. Our school is a
polling station. Whoever you vote for please make the effort to come and VOTE.
Have your say!
