Dear Parents and Caregivers
This week we
have the Education Review Office
team of three with us at school. They are looking at every aspect of school
operation. Today they are spending time in the classrooms and meeting with
teachers and school leaders. It is such a pleasure to be able to have a few
days to reflect on the wonderful things that have happened, are happening and
will happen at Carterton School. Yesterday the school gave a wonderful welcome
to the team with a powhiri in the hall. A special mention to Hāmiora G from R6 who spoke for us - he
was amazing! Well done to all of the school community for making our special
visitors feel so welcome from the first minute they arrived.
Tonight: Tuesday 4th November 6-7pm, Whānau Consultation Hui: we would
like to share our journey, achievements and korero about our tamariki. ERO have
been invited and they will be very interested to hear the developments in our school
and talk to whānau about our successes, relationships and our journey. It would
be great to see as many of you as possible to share our journey and feedback
with them.
Pacific Island dance will be on this Wednesday in the hall at 12:00.
We will be showing our two fantastic dances at an upcoming assembly.

underway. Keep working on your gardens at home and recording what you do
in your diary. Judging is in a couple of weeks. Happy Gardening!
Kapahaka Tuakana and Ākonga Māori:
Ruma ono - Kia ora
koutou, ngā mihi nui ki ngā whanau! Your
tamariki were absolutely amazing at the kapahaka festival! What a brilliant
performance and brilliant behaviour...6 and a half hours we were at the
festival and they were awesome the whole time. To us, Kapahaka is about celebrating
our culture and kotahitanga – unity, and that is exactly what our tamariki did
last Thursday… joining together as one and striving for excellence,
participating to the best they can be. They have stood strong, even when they
find the learning challenging. Everyone’s special qualities, and everyone’s
contribution was amazing! United together as one, with everyone putting great
effort, commitment and love into their performing, working hard, and enjoying
what we do – this is what makes us so strong and there was such amazing energy
and passion that touched everyone’s heart,
and we are all very proud of our brilliant performances! Thank you tamariki and
whanau for making the day such a special
and amazing one for us all! You were all absolutely amazing! Tumeke koutou
katoa! Whaea Lesley
Video of
the Kapahaka Festival - The
day was filmed by Mario Geremia and
he will be selling copies of the DVD. He
will be selling the DVDs individually for $25.00
and your school will be on one or the other (the powhiri will be on both), or
you can purchase the whole day for $35.00. Please contact Mario directly on mardi53@hotmail.com or call him on 378 8349.
This Friday 7th November: Ākonga Māori and
Kapahaka Tuakana are performing at Ron
Marks Farewell, and the changing of Carterton
Mayors. Haka powhiri and Performing at the Event Centre. I apologise for the short notice, I was only made
aware of the date change last Thursday. This is a very special invitation and
honour for us, so I hope they are all able to be there! We need to be at the
Events Centre at 5.15 to get into
our costumes, ready for 6pm start,
and about 7pmish finish with supper.

Important
Zone information - At
a recent Board of Trustees meeting the board identified that it is likely
there will be places available at all year levels for
2015, but not an equal amount in each year group. This enrolment period
is for all enrolments for 2015. (ie new entrants through the year and any other
year group to enrol at the start of 2015)
The
procedure for applying for places is:
Please contact
the office for an application form for an out of zone place/s. The
close off for applications will be 3.00pm, Friday 7th November.
If the number of applications received is greater than the number of places
available, a ballot will be necessary. The order of priority will be as
follows:
1. Siblings
of current student 2. Siblings of former students
3. Children
of former students 4. Children of Board employees
5. All
other children
Please be
aware, the only aspect of an enrolment scheme the Board has any power over, is
to identify whether there are places available or not. The way this is done and
the process for new enrolments is all set in legislation, which we have to
follow. Formal notification of how to apply for these places will also be in
the local paper (Midweek and Wairarapa News) over the coming week.

Prize Giving Cups – Please return any cups you have at
home to school ready for this year’s Prize Giving. Thank you.
Remember if you have any nominations for
people doing amazing things in and around our school and community fill in the
JNS nomination form and put it into the green mailbox (house) in the office
area. Remember is could be a student, staff or parent.
The Carterton Town and Country Garden Trail
is on Sunday 16th November and Team Kahikatea and Team Kowhai will be running a food stall at two gardens as part of
their fundraising. So parents, grandparents, family and friends of students in
these teams please start thinking about what you can bake to help with this
fundraising. You may like to contribute time by helping on the stall for
an hour or two. Team Kahitatea and Kowhai students have taken home a
notice so please fill it in and return it to Room 12 by Friday.
Remember to walk, bike and scoot to school when you
can. It is so good for you and the environment.

Gardeners Raffle – Please help by sending garden related donations to the school
office. It could be a pack of seeds, gloves, watering can, plants,
secateurs, garden fork & trowel, pots, planters, garden ornaments, books,
etc. Many thanks for supporting your
school. Tickets are $2 ea or 3 for $5 and available from the school office or on the day at the gardens.
The WAI Foodbank drive is on Wednesday 19th November. We are looking for older students for
runners to help collect the donations of food along Carterton
streets. The collectors will meet at Carterton
Fire Station at 5:15pm. If
you would like to help with this please ring Megan Gray 379 5503
after 3:30pm. Thank you!
Cancelled! Due to low ticket sales the Carterton Kindergarten Ballentynes
fundraiser has been cancelled.
